Tips For Health Screening

Find out which health screenings are recommended for you here!

Here are some tips that I found useful to ensure a more accurate health screening results and a better patient experience:

  • Find out from your doctor beforehand what tests will be done and whether fasting is necessary. Also, check with your doctor which medications should be stopped before the test.
  • If fasting is necessary, it is generally recommended to fast 8-10 hours before your test. It is okay to drink plain water.
  • If you are having menstruation:
    • If a urine test is required, it is recommended to to do the test 5 days after the last day of your period or 2 weeks before the first day of your period so as not to affect urine test results.
    • If you are doing a PAP smear test, do check with your doctor beforehand so as to avoid making a wasted trip down to the clinic.
  • Exercising before tests
    • Exercise, especially vigorous exercise, may cause small amounts of protein or blood to appear in the urine.
    • It is recommended to avoid exercise 24 hours before the test if a urine test is required.
  • Alcohol before tests
    • Alcohol may cause abnormalities in tests such as liver tests. It is best to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the test.
  • Creatine Powder
    • Creatine may cause elevation of kidney blood test results. It is recommended to avoid taking creatine powder for at least 4 weeks before the test.
  • Things to prepare beforehand:
    • Any record of your past medical reports, existing medications or any vitamin supplements
    • Check with your family for any family history of cancers and chronic illnesses.
      • It is also important to know at what age the disease is diagnosed for the family member, especially for colorectal cancer.
