I am Dr Loh Wei Liang (not to be confused with Dr Loh Wei-Liang, who is a hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon), an accredited family physician in Singapore. I co-own a private general practitioner clinic called Inspire Medical Clinic (Jalan Batu) with 2 of my doctor friends. My work mainly comprises seeing patients in the primary healthcare setting, which can be in the form of teleconsultations, physical consults at my clinic, as well as house visits. I am a strong believer in practising evidence-based medicine and the importance of continuous learning.

Having practised medicine in the Singapore primary healthcare setting both in the private and public sectors, I realise that time constraints pose a significant challenge for both healthcare providers and patients. Healthcare professionals often find themselves navigating tight schedules, leading to limited time available for individual patient consultations. This constraint can impact the quality of care as healthcare providers may feel rushed and unable to thoroughly address patients’ concerns. Additionally, patients may feel hurried and may not fully express their symptoms or seek necessary clarifications. The time constraints in primary healthcare settings may also hinder preventive care initiatives and patient education efforts.

It is with this in mind that I wanted to start the blog as a platform to provide information that will be useful for the health-conscious individual. It is information that I often wish I have more time to explain to my patients, be it clarifying common medical misconceptions or educating regarding preventive health. Though this will not help solve the more systemic problems, I hope that the information provided can at least help to reduce the information gap for patients.
